چکیده
This paper explores recent improvements in 802.11p multi-channel protocol in vehicular ad-hoc networks. We provide definitions for a vehicular network and explore the operation of 802.11 within a vehicular network. We also study on areas of improvements of this protocol and briefly discuss on advantages and disadvantages of each solution.

Performance Evaluation of Multi-channel Operation IEEE 1609.4 Based on Multi-hop Dissemination
The Multichannel Operations IEEE 1609.4 is an emerging standard which support the co-existence of safety (CCH Channel) and non-safety (SCH Channel) message application in vehicular networks. This strictly concerns on the transmission slot synchronization of CCH/SCH based on Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) to achieve QoS requirements (i.e. to improve packet delivery ratio and re...
متن کاملModeling and simulation of WAVE 1609.4-based multi-channel vehicular ad hoc networks
IEEE 1609.4 Standard for Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) has been proposed to enhance the performance of vehicular networks with multi-channel operations that allow for the coexistence of safety-related and non-safety related vehicular applications. At present, the evaluation of 1609.4-based Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) constitutes an open issue due to the lack of simulat...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Multiple-Antenna IEEE 802.11p Transceivers Using an FPGA-based MIMO Vehicular Channel Emulator
The IEEE 802.11p standard has been optimized for low-delay small-bandwidth wireless communications to provide vehicular safety services. However, IEEE 802.11p transceivers can considerably improve their robustness by incorporating MIMO transmission methods. Moreover, multiple antennas can also be used to increase the data transfer rate of IEEE 802.11p transceivers, a requirement necessary to im...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of IEEE 802.11 DCF and EDCA for Beaconing in Vehicular Networks
For use in vehicular networks, IEEE 802.11p has been standardized as the underlying wireless system. The 802.11 standard distinguishes two main methods of operation with respect to channel access, the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) and the Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA), where the latter is the mandated method to be used in vehicular networks (in 802.11p). We present valida...
متن کاملIEEE 802.11p-based Packet Broadcast in Radio Channels with Hidden Stations and Congestion Control
Authors: Yunpeng Zang (Member IEEE), Bernhard Walke (Fellow IEEE), Guido Hiertz (Member IEEE), Christian Wietfeld (Senior Member IEEE) Abstract: The Decentralized Congestion Control (DCC) algorithms specified in ETSI ITS standards [1] address the IEEE 802.11p MAC and provide reliability of periodic broadcast messages at high density of vehicles. However, the deterministic relation between contr...
